GLITCH:
Melbourne Underground
Profile:
Glitch is a group of Melbourne musicians and producers aiming to create a network or community for those interested in the growing genre of glitch and other similar electronic music.
The website is the beginning of an exciting new project, designed to bring together creative talent in the underground music scene of Melbourne. It will serve as both a means of contact with other likeminded artists and as an information hub, providing general information about current and upcoming activities, events and musicians and also displaying some local talent in the area.
The project will be a non-profit community project and worked on by volunteers. Revenue will be raised by donations only, and the website will not host advertisements. Budget will be used only for publishing, advertising and maintaining the website.
Project Objectives:
Create interest and popularity in the subject.
Create a smooth working platform for artists to brand, advertise and distribute their work.
A website which is simple and easy to use.
An active forum.
Target audience: musicians, youth oriented, public audience.
Design: the design should be simple and aesthetic, with a modern and edgy appearance. A simple and uncluttered page is desired, with clear links and images, making it easy to the eye. The colour scheme will be mainly grey scale.
layout: simple, (heading with logo on left, column on left for menu and a body)

Project Management:
Project manager: Angus Cody Green
Schedule – 8 weeks
1st week: layout and logo
2nd week: design and implement heading and menu
3rd week: complete basic design
4th and 5th week: implement links and embedded elements
6th week: create text
7th and 8th week: finalise an go over finished project. Publish.
Budget: $5000
publishing: $550 (for five years)
advertising: $2500
maintaining: $1950 (plus any donations later on)
Issues and Constraints:
Schedule: as the project is worked on by volunteers only, the schedule may be difficult to keep depending upon the availability of the workers.
Consistency: keeping a consistent procedure may be difficult due to the need for several developers because of time constraints for volunteers.
Maintaining: the website is an ongoing project, requiring a developer to be working on it full time, assessing and repairing glitches and updating links and other elements. They will also need to manage the forum.
Publicity: the low budget makes publicity difficult. The best possible solution will be to spread the project by gaining support from popular musicians.

Illustration with a Social Conscience
Thursday, 19 May 2011
The poster is a simple design, influenced by the Jamaican reggae culture. Reggae is a genre of music that began it's roots in black Jamaican culture, and along with it's often peaceful discourse is a perfect reference for an anti-racism poster. It also incorporates the Black power fist.
The second illustration is a flier, which is influenced by 1970's/80's poster art.

Rubbish Font
Thursday, 17 March 2011
My font design looks at the amount of waste created from cigarette butts that are constantly thrown into the streets and gutters, and usually end up in the sea, or somewhere else where they don't do any good. Admittedly I don't help this situation, being a not quite so thoughtful smoker myself.
I created the font by rolling and shaping cigarettes into characters, photographing them, then editing them in Gimp, resulting in a messy and generally pretty shoddy outcome. Either Gimp sucks, or I just have no idea how to use it. I desperately need Photoshop! Originally my design was going to be using cigarette butts alone to shape the letters, however firstly I couldn't collect enough cigarette butts, and secondly I decided it would have looked even messy then my final outcome. I have also uploaded the original images of the letters, which probably look a whole lot better than the finished image.
In conclusion. Definitely not the greatest outcome!
